In the eisteddfod held in conjunction with the main contest, Margot won champion lady’s solo. In June 1959, Margot and pianist Alan Speer won their sections in the state finals of the Concerto and Vocal Competition.

The usual nervous tension was in evidence for the State Finals of the Concerto and Vocal Competition. A thirteen-year-old pianist who was later to make a name for himself was highly commended for his rendition of Ravel’s Concerto in G. His name was David Helfgott. Other competitors were pianists Noelle Johns and Michael Cole, violinist Brian Hanly and soprano Lesley Perrin. The winners were pianist Pauline Rowe and soprano Margot Robertson, who was successful for a third time.
