Kimberley Harrison is the son of Jack and Marcia Harrison.
Kimberley grew up in the City Beach family home enjoying the surrounding expansive natural bushland and beaches that the suburb offered in the sixties.
He attended Wembley Kindergarten (the closest at the time), City Beach Primary School and Hale School, before studying music at the University of W.A, graduating with a Bachelor of Music Performance (Honours) on the trumpet in 1980. Kim’s trumpet teachers were Bernard Harvey, Don Johnson and Kevin Johnstone.
He played with the WA Arts Orchestra, augmented regularly in the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, played with the Will Upson Big Band and rock band ‘Boogie St’ and was a brass examiner for the A.M.E.B.
The fickle nature of making a living as a musician was appeased by teaching brass at several schools, leading to a career in education, which began seriously in 1983 when he was appointed to a part time position with Hale Junior School teaching music and art. In 1985 he accepted a full time position teaching secondary music at Methodist Ladies’ College , during which time he completed a Bachelor of Music Education (Honours) at University of WA in 1989.
He was appointed Director of Music at St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School in 1995, a position he held for almost thirty years. During Kimberley’s time at St Mary’s he oversaw the building of the new Performing Art Centre and Music Department, was instrumental in the successful musical collaboration with neighbouring Hale School and was a member of the WA Curriculum Council Music Syllabus Committee for twenty years.
A keen cyclist, Kim was an inaugural rider with the Ride for Youth from Albany to Perth in 2003 and has been involved in fourteen rides.
Kimberley married percussionist Amanda Dean in December 1985. Their daughter Natasha, was born in 1994 and now works as Doctor of Environmental Conservation for the WA Government. Son Mitchell was born in 1997 and is a Chartered Accountant.
Following his recent retirement, Kimberley moved to Fremantle where he is pursuing an existence as an aging semi hippie, shoddy builder and renovator and lazy cyclist.
