The New Year’s Eve concert at Cottesloe Beach on December 31, 1999, was the official state government millennium celebration known as the BankWest/Lotteries Last Sunset Family Concert, performed by the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO).
The conductor was Guy Noble, compere Angry Anderson and soloist Taryn Fiebig. The outfits were designed by Aurelio Costarella.
Eight minutes of this concert was broadcast live worldwide by an ABC TV crew.
It was a highly challenging concert dealing with unpredictable weather conditions, beach sand, a very focussed and somewhat anxious broadcast team and security challenges being in such a public venue. The bump in and outs were a nightmare!
