Kevin Gillam is a West Australian born poet, ‘cellist and music educator. He has had 4 books of poetry published, the last being “the moon’s reminder” (Ginninderra Press 2018), and his first 2 books were published by Sunline Press. He has also had 4 chapbooks of poetry published, all with Picaro Press. His poems have been published in all major Australian writing journals and has twice been shortlisted for the Australian Book Review Poetry Competition.
His poems have also been awarded 1st prize in numerous competitions, including the Woorilla Prize (3 times), Trudy Graham Literary Awards (3 times), Manly FAW Prize (3 times), National Jazz Writing Prize, Spilt Ink Prize (3 times) and Tom Collins Poetry Prize. He has been a guest poet at the Queensland, Melbourne and Tasmanian Poetry Festivals, and has also had poems broadcast on the Radio National ‘Poetica’ program.
In 2011 he collaborated with Iain Grandage (composer) to create the song cycle “Blackwood” which was performed as part of the Perth International Arts Festival in the Government House Ballroom.
He currently works as a ‘cello teacher in Government schools in Perth for IMSS.
